It's new information that he was responsible for his death, but it doesn't really change Derek's point. Only cements it, if anything. ]

You're smart. Smart enough to see how this shit screwed you up. Losing your best friend, growing up with an asshole like your father - that leaves scars. Damage like that can make someone do bad things.

[ He's being preachy and sanctimonious, and he's really not going to be shocked if Kavinsky ends up just kicking him out and choosing to get high, but Derek's changed enough times in his life to want to say something.
